10 Delicious Street Food Recipes You Can Make At Home

Section 1: What Is Street Food?

Delicious Street Food Recipes. Often referred to as street food or snack street food, this type of food originates from hawkers selling street food on the sidewalks of Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and even parts of South America. Though these establishments do not serve refined and elegant dishes, they still try their best to please and satisfy the most demanding palates. For this section, we’re focusing on street food from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, which make up the largest street food market, covering 15,000,000 square feet.

It’s not always what you’re used to though. Especially in the rural villages in these regions, the open streets and large open spaces are not meant to be clean or organized with a structured layout.

Fortunately, some tasty street food recipes will satisfy those cravings without sending you over the edge.

1. (Sweet) Kuchen

If you’re living in Austria, you might recognize this fried dough treat that’s somewhat reminiscent of an American doughnut. Like other similar dishes, there are two main variations of the doughnut—the weisskuchen, and the kuchen. To start, the weisskuchen is made with a solid dark chocolate doughnut topped with a thin layer of white icing.

Meanwhile, the kuchen is a cake that is filled with sweet cream or fruit.

How to Make Kuchen

1. Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl until smooth and thoroughly combined.

2. Divide the dough into three pieces and knead each piece separately for five minutes.

Thai Mango Sticky Rice

You’ve probably had sticky rice, but probably not like this. This isn’t your usual sticky rice — this has spicy coconut, sliced mango, cashews, and peanuts in it, as well as fresh basil, cilantro, chilis, and mint.

Chinese Roast Duck

One of my favorites is roast duck. I always thought it would be too challenging to do right. Until I tried it. The dark meat here is braised, shredded, and pan-fried and the skin is extra crispy. Add a few veggies like broccoli or green beans and call it a meal.

Pad Thai

Looking for an amazing option that’s easy and doesn’t require a ton of special ingredients? Pad Thai is it.

Inspired by a dish in my favorite Thai movie, Thai Trap, it’s a base of rice noodles with fried tofu, egg, and bean sprouts.

Easy: Make the noodles by pulsing the dry ingredients in a food processor. Layer the cooked noodles in a glass dish, top with bean sprouts, and add shredded tofu, then top it all off with a fresh green salad.

Cool: Serve it hot with a salad on the side and tons of Thai sweet chili sauce.

Is it Thai? Maybe. Does it count if the noodles are from Trader Joe’s? YES, SO DO IT.

Pad Thai noodles? Yes.

And by using a slow cooker you can reap in all that flavor. Served with a yogurt sauce, this dish is one of the healthiest beans you’ll find at your local bodega.
