Mi Notebook Ultra Review: Is it Worth Buying?

Section 1: Mi Notebook Ultra Review

Mi Notebook Ultra does not have many fans online, and there are several reasons for this. Xiaomi’s laptop doesn’t appeal much with the gaming or media editing capabilities.

That aside, the Mi Notebook Ultra works in its favour when it comes to what it offers as a work laptop. It is light and has good battery life. Mi Notebook Ultra The Mi Notebook Ultra is a decent laptop for those who are not looking to game or do any other editing on the Mi Notebook Ultra.

Mi Notebook is an appropriate name, considering that it is designed like a notebook. It is one of the lightest 14-inch notebooks in India, and it weighs just 1.07 kg. The rubber finish gives it a comfortable grip.

You might have already noticed the camera on the top right corner, there to support the built-in Real Camera app.

Design

Mi Notebook Ultra features an all-metal body which gives it a sturdy build quality. The chassis features a brushed aluminium finish. Mi Notebook Ultra The laptop is very light and is relatively thin which makes it easy to carry. The rounded edges, backlit keyboard, and touchpad are well-designed and improves the overall aesthetics of the laptop. The right side of the laptop features the power and volume keys, and the USB-C port which can be used for charging the laptop and connecting external storage.

The power button and sleep switch are located on the top of the laptop, which gives it a premium look. The top part of the screen is curved, which makes it ideal for typing.

Display

Mi Notebook Ultra is a decent display. It has a full-HD (1920×1080) resolution and you will get an excellent visual experience on this laptop, though you will need to tweak your settings a little to make it a perfect fit for you. Mi Notebook Ultra I did find that white balance was slightly too warm in the default mode but when I changed it to ‘Cool’ mode, everything got a little bit better.

Mi Notebook Ultra review: Performance

The Mi Notebook Ultra is powered by the sixth-generation Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB of RAM. It does not support an SSD but that isn’t much of a hurdle because it has a 512GB SSD. The laptop does heat up a bit during extended use, especially during gaming or heavy multi-tasking.

Performance

As we’ve already mentioned, the Mi Notebook Ultra is a solid machine. The base variant has 8GB RAM while the top-end version has 16GB RAM.

AnandTech’s Anand Lal Shimpi said, “The Mi Notebook with 16GB RAM beats out my gaming laptop in more ways than one.”

After using the device for a while, I can say that he has a point. If you are a mobile gamer and have the budget to spare, this is the option for you. It can handle several games on medium settings without issue. That said, I wouldn’t recommend this machine if you’re going to edit videos on it, as the operating system and file management tools are not great. The other issue here is the touchscreen display. Mi Notebook Ultra I didn’t find any complaints from fellow journalists on this. I used it for some time without any major issues.

Battery Life

The Mi Notebook Ultra has a four-cell 42Wh battery and runs for around eight hours on a single charge. For most people, this should be more than enough. However, there are worse systems out there that offer much lower battery life.

Usability

The Mi Notebook has a very smooth touchpad with a nice texture. The screen has great viewing angles and while typing, you will rarely get smudges on the screen. The keyboard has an HD touchpad, which is far better than the regular MacBook keyboards.

The Mi Notebook also has a standard model of Intel Core i7 processor, dual hard drives, and 16GB of RAM, which makes it powerful enough for even intensive tasks. However, the thing you can’t do with this laptop is install games or run games.

Price

The Mi Notebook Ultra can be bought online for as low as Rs 54,999.

The Xiaomi Mi Notebook Ultra specifications

The Xiaomi Mi Notebook Ultra has a 13.3-inch display. It is powered by the 7th Gen Intel Core i5 CPU. It has 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD.

The laptop also has a dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX150 GPU. It has USB Type-C, 2x USB 3.0 ports, and an SD card slot for expansion.

Design and display

The laptop comes in a glass finish with fingerprint sensor. It comes with a thicker chassis compared to other premium laptops such as the Lenovo Legion Y720. Its size and weight makes it look like a regular laptop.

However, the body has a bit of flex to it so it feels like a sturdy laptop. The display has the integrated webcam. The left side holds the power button and volume rocker.

Conclusion

Overall, Mi Notebook Pro and Mi Notebook Pro packs good value for money. Both laptops are sturdy, look stylish and perform well. Mi Notebook Pro is the more powerful laptop and I’m comfortable recommending it to someone looking for a laptop for video editing, gaming, etc. However, if you are looking for a laptop with a lightweight and well-designed design, Mi Notebook Air is your pick.
